Allan Potts with his photographs on show
at Pandy Mill Gallery, Glyn Ceiriog.
A
SNAP happy village postie who carries out his morning rounds complete with
camera is gearing up to hold the first ever public exhibition of his work.
Allan Potts, who
delivers in the
Ceiriog
Valley
, says being a postman gives him a unique opportunity to see things that might
otherwise be missed.
In the past his dramatic photos of mountaintop fires have been used by the BBC
on their website – now 21 examples of his finest work are on display at the
Pandy Mill Gallery, in Glyn Ceiriog, until April 27.
"I've been taking photographs for years," said Allan.
"My dad took me climbing when I was four and I started off with the old box
Brownie. But this is the first time I have done an exhibition. It was my family
who asked me to give it a go."
The 49-year-old, who has been a postman for 20 years, says the early mornings g
ive him a unique
view of the world, so his camera is never far away.
"Being a postman helps because you see things you might not otherwise
see," he said.
"I take the camera with me when I'm on the rounds – I carry it with me in
the van.
The exhibition at Pandy Mill Gallery,
which is open at the weekends between 11am and 4.30pm, free entry, features a
variety of scenes from villages around the
Ceiriog
Valley
.
He said: "It's scenery mainly, but there are also wonderful birds of prey.
"It's pretty much local stuff – there are pics from Llangollen, and from
the
Ceiriog
Valley
."
Examples of Allan's work are available by logging on to his website at

The 'Ungloving
of The Hand'
Thursday
1 March saw the 'Ungloving of The Hand' at The Hand in Llanarmon. Jim Heath,
wood sculptor from Chirk, and well known to us at Pandy Mill Gallery, has made a
fine wooden hand. A special morning was had by all. Martin and Gaynor provided
a splendid Welsh Tea after the ceremony.

Special Visitors
Pandy Mill Gallery was
delighted to welcome Olympic Gold Medallist Ellen Hunter and her husband Paul.
They were cycling up the Ceiriog valley on a training run and just popped in for
a cup of coffee and a piece of cake! They also had a good look at the art,
especially Jan's glass work - Ellen has a strong interest in glass design. We
hope to see them again.
Jan has fitted a new
window in the Tearoom of the gallery. Come and take a look!
'Heavy Load'

Jan has completed
a large glass window panel (below) for a private home in the Ceiriog
valley.
'Knot of Life'

Make sure you don't
miss the new glass panel (below) which Jan has completed for the front door of
the gallery. View it from both sides and see two very different pieces of art.
